डायमण्ड हार्बर (बांग्ला: ডায়মন্ড হারবার) कोलकाता शहर का दक्षिणी उपनगर है। यह हुगली नदी के तट पर बसा है, जिसके निकट ही यह नदी बंगाल की खाड़ी में मिलती है। यह छोटा सा नगर सप्ताहांत में एक मशहूर पर्यटक स्थल बन जाता है। यह शहर दक्षिण २४ परगना जिला में स्थितहै। यहाँ अंग्रेज़ों के समय का एक विशाल पत्तन (बंदरगाह) बना है।


30 मील लंबे रेलमार्ग द्वारा यह कोलकाता से जुड़ा है। यहाँ से दक्षिण में चिङ्ड़ीखाली नामक किला है जिसमें भारी तोपें रखी हुई हैं। पहले यह ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के जहाजों के रुकने का प्रमुख स्थान था और अब भी यहाँ जहाज और स्टीमर आते हैं।


'डायमण्ड हार्बर' चौबीस परगना जिले का उपमंडल भी है। इस उपमंडल का क्षेत्रफल 1,283 वर्ग मील है, जिसमें से 907 वर्ग मील क्षेत्र में सुंदरवन है। उपमंडल के दक्षिण में अर्धनिर्मित भूभाग है जिसमें अरुद्ध नदमुख द्वारा गंगा नदी समुद्र में जाने का मार्ग पाती है। इस उपमंडल में 1,575 गाँव हैं, केवल डायमंड हारबर एकमात्र नगर है।



जनसांख्यिकी


2001 के अनुसार [update] भारत जनगणनानुसार,[1] डायमंड हार्बर की कुल जनसंख्या ३७,२३८ है। इसमें से ५१% पुरुष एवं ४९% स्त्रियां है। डायमंड हार्बर की साक्षरतादर ७२% है, जो राष्ट्रीय साक्षरतादर ५९.५% से कहीं अधकहै। यहां की कुल जनसंख्या का १०% भाग १० वर्ष से नीचे है।


कोलकाता पोर्ट ट्रस्ट यहां जेटियों के लिए एक कार्गो टर्मिनल इमारत बनाने के लिए योजनाबद्ध है।[2]
