2016 के ग्रीष्मकालीन ओलंपिक में बैडमिंटन का आयोजन रियो डी जनेरियो में किया गया है। यह 11 से 20 जुलाई के मध्य 172 प्रतिभागियों के साथ पूरा होगा। इसमें पुरुष एकल, पुरुष युगल, महिला एकल, महिला युगल और मिश्रित युगल हैं[1]


यह 2012 के प्रारूप के समान ही है। बैडमिंटन वर्ल्ड फेडरेशन का गठन इससे पहले कई फिक्सिंग के मामले सामने आने के बाद किया गया था। यह इसके नियमों में कई परिवर्तन कर चुका है। [2]



योग्यता


ओलंपिक में योग्यता की अवधि में जगह 4 मई, 2015 और 1 मई, 2016 के मध्य तय हुआ और बैडमिंटन वर्ल्ड फेडरेशन रैंकिंग की सूची निर्धारित कर 5 मई, 2016 को प्रकाशित किया। पिछले स्पर्धा से अलग, इस बार कोई भी देश केवल दो खिलाड़ियों को पुरुष एकल और महिला एकल में भेज सकता है, यदि वें विश्व के शीर्ष 16 में हों। यदि नहीं तो केवल एक के लिए ही स्थान रहेगा।[3] इसी तरह का नियम युगल के लिए भी लागू किया गया है। इसमें युगल तभी हिस्सा ले सकते हैं, जब वह दोनों युगल शीर्ष 8 में हों। केवल एक युगल के लिए केवल एक ही स्थान दिया जाता है यदि शीर्ष 16 तक का स्थान बचा हुआ हो।[4]


यदि कोई खिलाड़ी एक महाद्वीप से इसके योग्य नहीं होता है तो वहाँ के सबसे अच्छे खिलाड़ी को वह स्थान मिल जाता है।[3]
